1. FC Union Berlin
1. FC Union Berlin was founded in 1966. It is today one of the most known football clubs in Berlin and is looking back on a more than 100 year-old history including its previous clubs.
In 1906 "SC Olympia Oberschöneweide" was founded. This club was the basic for the football tradition in southeast Berlin. Since 1920 the stadium "An der Alten Försterei" is the home ground of 1. FC Union Berlin.
At GDR times 1. FC Union Berlin played permanently in the premier or second league, but after the reunification the club needed some years to habituate on the new sporty and economic situations. At 2001 Union reached the second league and the German cupfinal. In spite of a defeat against Schalke 04 (0:2), the following year Union played at the UEFA cup, because Schalke was qualified for the champions league.
After two descents in sequence, 1. FC Union Berlin finally reached the second league in 2009. With the help of Sponsors and over 2500 volunteers, Union modernized its traditional stadium. In average, 14.000 spectators come to every home game of 1. FC Union Berlin and spark a unique atmosphere.

Team
"Consistency” is the magic word for 1. FC Union Berlin. Team captain Mattuschka and goalkeeper Jan Glinker have already played for 1. FC Union Berlin in lower leagues. The main part of the team play together for years, and many players come from Berlin and Brandenburg. Chefcoach Uwe Neuhaus´ philosophy is to support talented players from the youth training - center.
Successes
Union Berlin stands for an authentic football culture. Nevertheless they had success, especially in cup - championships. For example, in 1968 they won against the favorite “Carl Zeiss Jena” in the final of the FDGB cup. In 1986 Union reached the final but they lost against “Lokomotive Leipzig”. In 2001 Union lost the final against “Schalke 04”, but in the following year they played in the UEFA cup, because “Schalke 04” was qualified for the champions league.
Season
In the season 2012/2013 Union will fight for staying in the protected midfield of the second league and maybe have a glimps at the places 4 to 8.
