The blue and white „HERTHA", a steamboat on the Wannsee, gave the Club the name on July 25th 1892. Since then the Club, as well as the City of Berlin, underwent a very capricious history. After the fusion between BFC HERTHA 92 and the Berliner Sportclub, HERTHA BSC emerged in 1923. In the following years the Club reached the Finals of the German Championships six times in a row before the title came to town in 1930 and 1931.
After the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1963, HERTHA went through all highs and lows of football as the inclusion to the Regionalliga (1965-1968), the runners-up title in 1975 or the appearance at the Champions League (1999/2000).
Today, HERTHA BSC is Berlin´s only Bundesliga side and a club that unites fans from the East and the West. HERTHA BSC has over 25.000 club members.
It will be interesting to see, how the team and his new dutch headcoach Jos Luhukay will do in the upcoming 2nd league season .
HERTHA BSC won the German Championships in 1930 and 1931. In 1975 they were runners up. They reached the Cup Final three times (1977, 1979, 1993) and played in the Champions League in 1999/2000.
The goal for the upcoming season 2012/2013 must be the class promotion to the 1st Bundesliga.
